"We thoroughly enjoyed the difficulty and complexity this project brought, through the rising damp issues, to creating construction details to meet their 1860's counterpart."

Owner / Managing Director
Client Objectives:
Our client purchased this property with the intent to complete the renovation themselves. After a rather unfortunate rising damp issue required walls to be taken back to brick, a year had passed and Megham Building Services were engaged to complete the renovation/ refurbishment of this home.
Scope of Work:
Megham Building Services was engaged directly by the home owner, to complete a renovation and refurbishment of features throughout this heritage 1860's cottage. The aim of the renovation was to provide our client with a new functional kitchen which provided them with the flexibility to utilise both modern, and refurbished appliances. The renovation saw the installation of a refurbished Canberra Metter's oven, this oven was found by the clients once purchased. Additionally, throughout the home an existing skylight was replaced in the reading room, whilst an additional was added within the kitchen. Throughout the living and bedrooms, we addressed the rising damp issues and relined and painted the walls, sanded back and oiled all existing doors, architraves, and skirting, and replaced details that couldn't refurbished. Given the age of this cottage specialist attention was required due to the nature of the existing details, and original materials. With our experience of history/ heritage projects, Megham Building Services had the capabilities to make this project a success.
Achievements:
This late Victorian double fronted cottage, built in the 1860s, has been passed through its fair share of hands through out its history. With this, has brought several additions, renovations, and coats of paint. This project saw the kitchen be remodelled and renovated to suit our clients lifestyle by incorporating both modern and refurbished appliances. This home also saw refurbishments to various living and bedrooms throughout the home. This included the remediation the the existing doors, architraves and skirtings, the client wanted to maintain as much of the original timber as possible, we achieved this through intricate sanding, and oiling, paying attention to each detail.
